Executive Director

James’ political career began as a field organizer at the Florida Democratic Party, and since then he’s had the privilege to work on several local and state campaigns as well as at the Texas Democratic Party.

James has had the opportunity to fight for progressive causes at many levels and is excited to continue that work at the TCDP. He has devoted his career to turning Texas blue.

James lives in Austin, TX, with his partner and his cat, Travis. In his spare time he enjoys swimming, live music, and going to local parks.


Courtney Bres (she/her)
Organizing Director

Courtney moved to Austin from New Orleans in 2009 and got her start in organizing in 2016. In the aftermath of the 2016 election, she felt a drive to make positive change and fight for progress, and founded a grassroots meetup for women and nonbinary individuals called “True Grit Women’s Society.” Two years later in 2018 she worked extensively on Beto O’Rourke’s Senate campaign, and has been organizing for progress ever since.

Courtney previously served as TCDP’s Senior Organizer on the 2020 Coordinated Campaign, and is returning as Organizing Director to help run the 2024 Coordinated Campaign and turn Texas blue.

Courtney lives in Austin, TX, with her partner Robert and her cats, Drew and Buffy. In her spare time she enjoys listening to pop punk, watching NFL games, and relaxing with her pets.


Darren Nevares (he/him)
Central Texas Organizer

Darren Nevares, a native Texan born in Austin and raised in San Marcos, is a dedicated advocate for social change. Graduating with a bachelor's degree in Philosophy and a Minor in Computer Science from Texas State University, Darren has honed his skills and knowledge to fuel his passion for activism.

With nearly seven years of organizing experience under his belt, Darren has been deeply involved in various impactful initiatives. From contributing to the decriminalization of marijuana and engaging in police reform efforts to spearheading canvassing, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising for nonprofits, Darren has left an indelible mark on his community.

Driven by a fervent commitment to criminal justice reform, youth civic engagement, and workers' rights, Darren tirelessly champions these causes, striving to create a more just and equitable society for all.


caitlin kalb (she/her)
campus organizer, fall 2024

Caitlin is a rising junior at the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a major in Government and a minor in Law, Justice, and Society. At UT, she serves as the Vice President of University Democrats, actively advocating for local policy initiatives. Drawing from her background in campaign canvassing and congressional office work, Caitlin is working on her journey toward public service.

With a lifelong passion for politics, she aspires to drive progressive change within her communities. Her future goals include attending law school and specializing in immigration law, ultimately aspiring to become a judge and further contribute to the legal system.
