EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - Job Description

POSITION: Executive Director

LOCATION: All candidates must be based or willing to relocate to Travis County.

EMPLOYMENT TERM: This is a full-time salaried position eligible for benefits. The desired start date is June 2024.

DESCRIPTION: The Travis County Democratic Party (TCDP) seeks qualified applicants for Executive Director to manage the day-to-day operations of the local Party. The Executive Director shall collaborate with the Party Chair to implement a strategic plan for 2024 and the future. We seek an energetic and experienced person who will work collaboratively with the Party Chair, precinct chairs, and other Party staff to design and implement a year round organizing plan to build on our successes. The Executive Director should have a long-term commitment and passion working for the Democratic Party.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • CEC Oversight: Oversee all activity related to the CEC, including maintaining meeting minutes, attendance records, committee reports, and ensure timely and accurate completion of correspondence;

  • Planning or Oversight of Statutory & Other Requirements: Plan or oversee legally required and other key activities including candidate filings, the Primary Election, the County Convention, and special events. Assist with receiving applications for a place on the Primary Ballot for the County and/or TDP;

  • Finance Compliance: Oversee compliance and financial reporting to all relevant entities;

  • Personnel Management: Manage Staff and Consultants hired by the Party, and oversee the day to day operations of the TCDP;

  • Fundraising: Collaborate with the County Chair to set fundraising goals and a budget, set call time lists, make donor calls, ensure that the Party is staying within the budget; and organize fundraising events.

  • Communications: Oversee and manage social media and emails sent out by the Party in collaboration with the Chair.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least three (3) years experience in political campaigns, with a finance background and/ or management experience, but could include public sector, non-profits, or private industry.

  • Significant successful campaign experience, including campaign manager for at least one campaign with a $250,000+ budget.

  • Experience developing and meeting finance plans/budgets, including managing call time, creating call lists, and organizing virtual and in-person events.

  • A clear understanding of all aspects surrounding a winning campaign including modern campaign tactics such as digital, targeting, polling, election law, grassroots/issue-based organizing, and implementing get out the vote programs.

  • Proven ability to recruit, train, and motivate staff, delegate projects to staff and manage reporting and oversight of projects during weekly staff meetings.

  • Extensive experience with data and targeting in NGP and VAN.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, soliciting and securing both small and large donations.

  • Basic media experience related to writing press releases/media advisories, and developing relationships with reporters.

  • Ability to recruit and empower volunteers, members of an organization, and democratic constituencies.

  • Strong organization management skills with ability to execute a strategic plan with regular reports to Chair and County Executive Committee.

     

BENEFITS & COMPENSATION:

Salary range is $67,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience plus:
